Most of our communication is nonverbal, more familiarly known as body language. But nonverbal communication comprises more tahn just the physical motions, gestures and actions of our bodies. It also deals with the qualities of the voice, things like tonality, word emphasis, volume and inflection and with image, how we dress and choose to present ourselves to the world.
You cannot not communicate, because even when you’re just standing there your telling the world a lot about yourself. Many people don’t seem to realize that a momentary and fleeting decision about something like how they dress can have such a major impact on how they are viewed by the world.
We should care about the messages we send because in truth, perception is reality, at least to those who are perceiving you. You may be the brightest and best person in the world but if nobody knows this or notices you it doesn’t really matter. Talent won’t always get you to the top, neither will merit. It is who you know and what they think about you.
Body Language and nonverbal communication are skills that can be learned and that can give you the edge. Stay tuned, cause there’s a lot you need to know.

Hi Steve,
I’m so glad to see you stressing the point of vocal tonality in our total composition of body language. I get interviewed about the topic of body language signals and romantic flirting, and was just emphasizing to an Australian interviewer the additional layer of body language sophistication to weave in vocal variations in tonality.
Excellent body language points!

It is amazing how we judge people based on our first look at them. I know many times my first impression isn’t correct but it was what the person was exhibiting at that time.
