Massive Preparation – The key element to success

I believe that preparation is one of the most important aspect of succeeding at life.  We all know that, but very few of us really prepare for the important things, you know, the big scary things that life has to offer.

Are you under the impression that some people are luckier than others?  Does it seem that no matter how hard you work, or how positively you think that things just don’t go your way?  Do you know someone who does all the wrong things but only good things happen to them?  I think we all do.

For years I was interested in what makes some people luckier than others.  Was there really something to the concept of luck?  Something metaphysical perhaps?  I have a friend that is blessed with success in just about everything he does.  With no background he bought real estate at the bottom of the market, only had trouble free tenants and positive cash flow while he owned them and then sold for top dollar before the market began stagnating.  He runs a very profitable business while employed in a secure job that provides a pension.  His kids seem well adjusted and he continues to negotiate very profitable side deals.  Heck, he even wins when he gambles in Vegas.

Contrast that to the people you know with what seems to be all the right connections, education and resources who time and time again meet with failure.  IS this all based on luck and if so, is there a way to become luckier?

Right now there is a very popular book called, “The Secret” that deals with positive thinking.  The basic premise is, “If you think right then things will happen to you.”  I have also familiar with Wayne Dyer's work.  His philosophy has evolved over the years from a very psychology-based approach into a very spiritual manifestation-type approach.  Whereas this type of thing fails the logic test on so many levels, it does appeal to the basic desire we all have to get something for nothing. This seem crazy to me, and while there is a certain appeal to test his theory by sitting in my room and thinking right thoughts, I feel that life is too short to waste on this type of crap.
So what works? What make us lucky?  IS there even such a thing as luck?
